Introduction to BLS Certification and course
If you are looking to take the Basic Life Support (BLS) course but are not sure whether it is the right course for you, you are in the right place to find out! The Basic Life Support course is designed to teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to professionals working in a team environment. Having a BLS certification allows the professional to have confidence in responding to emergency situations. Examples of professionals that should attend the BLS course include pre-hospital care providers such as those in fire rescue, rescue teams, sports medicine, lifeguards, and ski patrol. Other examples of professionals include in-facility care providers, nursing staff, care aides, and those in medical and dental occupations. If you do not belong to any of these professions but would still like to develop First Aid skills and knowledge, you may opt for the Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED Course or just the CPR-C/AED Course. Participants attending this course are taught the important steps to perform a variety of procedures such as rapid assessment, rapid defibrillation including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and other BLS skills. The course content is split into the following topics: Glove Removal, Primary Assessment, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Airway Obstruction, Assisted Ventilation, and Basic Life Support Special Considerations. These are all essential topics that cover information and techniques required to aid someone in a medical emergency or life-threatening situation. The BLS certification is valid for a year and needs to be recertified due to the pressing nature of those required to have this specific certification. The recertification course must be conducted before the expiration of the current certification, or the participant would have to get certified again. The BLS recertification course takes about two hours to be completed whereas the BLS certification course takes about four hours. To obtain certification, the participant must successfully demonstrate all course skill competencies and participate in 100% of the course. The participant would then need to write a closed book knowledge evaluation test and obtain a minimum of 75% to complete the course. Register for your BLS course today
